Governor of Queensland Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce, AC, will be the special guest at a gala dinner tonight to celebrate 50 years of the teaching of social work at The University of Queensland.

Ms Bryce, a former UQ lecturer, will share stories of her experiences at the University and of those she taught, many of whom will be in attendance.

Head of the School of Social Work and Applied Human Sciences, Associate Professor Jill Wilson said the evening promised an entertaining and nostalgic look back over the history of social work education at UQ, from its humble beginnings as the Diploma and Degree of Social Studies with 10 enrolled students, to its present state and the multi-disciplinary, multi-campus and multi-program School.

“We’re very excited to have many of our past students and staff attending the dinner. It is wonderful to see such support from our Alumni and friends," Dr Wilson said.

The dinner will take place on Friday, March 10 from 7 to 10pm at Rydges South Bank, Brisbane on the Level 12 Rooftop. Media are invited to attend the event from 6.30pm.
