School leavers who have their OP but are still deciding on their future can take advantage of free expert advice from Queensland’s leading university.

The University of Queensland’s OPtions Evening at the St Lucia campus this Wednesday, December 21, will help school leavers navigate the wide range of study options available at the University.

School-leavers will be able to speak to academic staff from all faculties on the evening, from 5pm to 8pm at the UQ Centre, Union Road, St Lucia.

UQ Acting Secretary and Registrar, Ms Linda Bird, said the aim was to help students and their parents or guardians make an informed decision before the QTAC change of preference deadline of January 4.

“It is not unusual for people to be in a bit of a quandary about their study options after they receive their OPs,” Ms Bird said.

“Many people are surprised by their OP, and need to take a fresh look at their future after they receive their result.

“This event is organised by UQ Admissions specifically to help school leavers who need urgent advice about entry to UQ.

“Our academic, admissions and UQ Ipswich staff will be there, and our student ambassadors will be on hand to give an insight into what students can expect when they study at UQ,” said Ms Bird.

Included in the event is a presentation on entry requirements, upgrading, prerequisites, QTAC process, alternative pathways and scholarships.

The seminars being held are:

5.30pm-6pm – Information Technology Study Options at UQ
6pm-7pm – Opening doors: How to gain entry to your chosen UQ program
7pm-7.15pm – Information for parents of prospective UQ students
7.15pm-7.30pm – Life as a UQ student
