Distinguished agricultural scientist Dr Bob Clements will receive the 2004 Farrer Memorial Medal at a UQ St Lucia ceremony on Monday, October 31.
The presentation will include the Farrer Oration entitled Shaking Windows, Rattling Walls.
Dr Clements said his address would highlight the progress of agricultural science in Australia.
“I will illustrate this using the example of the adoption of at least three technologies — tropical forage legumes, internet communications and genetically modified crops,” Dr Clements said.
The presentation and oration will prove popular with people involved with agricultural industries, many of whom have benefited from Dr Clements research, leadership in CSIRO and ACIAR (the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research) and more recently as Chair of the Crawford Foundation.
The focus of Dr Clements` work has also helped to boost the viability of the livestock industries in northern Australia through the development of improved pasture species and identifying sustainable management systems.
Mr Barry Buffier, who is Director-General of the NSW Dept of Primary Industries and Chair of the Farrer Memorial Trust, will present the Farrer Memorial Medal to Dr Clements.
The ceremony will be at the UQ Centre Lecture Theatre, Union Road, St Lucia on Monday, October 31 at 7.30pm.
People who wish to attend the ceremony, which will be followed by refreshments, should RSVP to raquel.bonnar@dpi.nsw.gov.au no later than Friday October 21, 2005.
