Career opportunities within the agricultural, food and fibre industries will be the focus of this year’s UQ Gatton Open Day on August 28th.
The well publicised labour shortages within these industries have inspired event organisers to showcase the career opportunities available for graduates to inspire potential students to become involved in these progressive and exciting industries.
Open day will see the Gatton Campus inundated with over 3000 visitors seeking to further their knowledge of the variety of study options available within the Faculty of Natural Resources, Agriculture and Veterinary Science (NRAVS).
Course information seminars will be complemented by UQ graduates and industry experts willing to share their insight into career options and pathways available in each chosen study area.
“Many people do not seem to realise that agriculture, food, environment and animal industries and careers within these industries offer diverse, well paying careers in areas other than the traditional on-farm activities,” said Professor Roger Swift, Executive Dean (NRAVS).
“There really is a wide variety of jobs available in areas such as banking and finance, teaching, research and consultancy work.”
By combining the focus of its Open Day UQ Gatton hopes to not only lift the profile of careers in these areas but also create a more positive perception of these industries with the general public.
Colin Birch, Director of Studies for the Faculty agrees with Professor Swift’s assessment.
“This is a multi-billion dollar industry. Along with the hands-on aspect comes a multitude of support and auxiliary services, creating the growth areas that our graduates are interested in and that we are promoting to potential students through our Open Day program,” he said.
The Open Day is designed to not only supply prospective students with course and career information but also to highlight the extra curricular activities and lifestyle aspects which help to make the Gatton Campus a dynamic and stimulating place to study.
From sport, social clubs, financial assistance and study pathways to university life and accommodation options, UQ Gatton Open Day will help answer your questions.
Join us for an informative day including tours, food, music and entertainment on Sunday August 28th from 9.30am until 3.00pm – UQ Gatton Campus, Warrego Highway, Gatton.
