The University of Queensland`s Fryer Library will celebrate the centenary of women`s suffrage with the opening of a new display.

Worth Fighting For! A display on women in Queensland political life will be officially unveiled on Thursday, June 9 at 6pm at the library.

The display is part of the State-wide celebrations for Queensland Week and the 40th anniversary of the Indigenous vote.

It includes material from the personal papers of poet and political activist Oodgeroo Noonuccal, former ALP Senator Margaret Reynolds and political activists Daisy Marchisotti and Kath Thomas.

It also contains records of the Queensland Branch of the Women`s International League for Peace and Freedom, the Union of Australian Women and the Women`s Bookshop.

Guest speakers at the event will include UQ Vice-Chancellor Professor John Hay, AC, and Minister for Local Government, Planning and Women, Desley Boyle.

The Fryer Library is the branch of The University of Queensland Library responsible for special collections.

It is open to the public seven days a week at UQ`s St Lucia campus. The display will run from June 1 to December 1.
