Drug trafficking in Asia and international pornography rings are some of the topics that will be debated at an international crime roundtable on June 14.
The roundtable on transnational organised crime and international criminal law, hosted by The University of Queensland and the Australian Institute of Criminology, will be held at Customs House, 399 Queen St, Brisbane.
The event will bring together international legal experts and criminologists who will debate some of the most contentious issues faced today in international crime.
Drug trends in Southeast Asia, trafficking in child pornography, and Asian political responses to drug operations are some of the topics to be discussed.
UQ legal expert and roundtable convenor Dr Andreas Schloenhardt said the event planned to bring international experts together to work toward solutions to organised international crime.
“Particular attention will be drawn to new patterns of organised criminal activities, as well as regional and international measures to prevent and suppress transnational organised crime,” Dr Schloenhardt said.
“It will be a wide ranging and interdisciplinary debate spanning law, law enforcement, criminology and sociology,” he said.
Senator for Queensland The Hon. George H. Brandis will present the official welcome and the day’s proceedings will begin at 9am.
