The University of Queensland Ipswich Campus Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alan Rix, has been elected as the new Chairperson of the Ipswich Region Education and Training Cluster.
Professor Rix was elected to the position at the Cluster’s Annual General Meeting in Ipswich on Tuesday, 5 April.
The appointment comes at a time of strategic development and growth for the Cluster, following its official launch in November 2004.
Professor Rix said the Cluster, branded as The Green Corner, has commenced 2005 with a number of new initiatives designed to profile the Ipswich region to both national and international markets as an ideal environment to undertake quality education and training.
“The Cluster has secured funding from the Queensland Education and Training International (QETI) to support our planned activities for 2005,” Professor Rix said.
“These initiatives include the Cluster’s first international group marketing exhibition to the South East Asian region, to raise awareness and build profile of Cluster members and Ipswich as an ideal educational environment.”
Professor Rix will be supported by Mr Chris Webb from West Moreton Anglican College who was elected as Deputy Chairperson.
The Ipswich Region and Training Cluster is an educational network bringing together major schools, vocational training providers and universities in the Ipswich area.
Supported by Ipswich City Council and the Department of State Development (Innovation), The Green Corner membership includes Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School, West Moreton Anglican College, St Mary’s College, Forest Lake International College, Union Institute of Languages, The Bremer Institute of TAFE, Recruitment @ Top, Education City Australian Centre for Life Long Learning, The University of Queensland’s Ipswich Campus and The University of Queensland’s Institute of Continuing and TESOL Education.
