10 March 2005

Queensland Chief Justice Paul de Jersey will detail the role of theory and philosophy in legal education in Australia when he opens the Australian Legal Philosophy Students Association (ALPSA) 2005 program on Monday (March 14).

Some of the nation’s top legal minds including barristers, current Supreme Court Judges and Queensland Law Society President Mr Glenn Ferguson will attend.

ALPSA is a national body that encourages and rewards critical reflection on law and legal reasoning to improve legal education in Australia.

Chief Justice de Jersey will speak from 6pm in the Sir Samuel Griffith Room, Forgan Smith building (no.1), UQ St Lucia.

UQ’s Head of the TC Bernie School of Law Professor Charles Rickett will also speak.

ALPSA is based at UQ’s Law School but is an independent entity.

Its president Max Leskiewicz, who works as a Supreme Court associate after graduating from UQ last year, said there was more to law than studying the rules and ALPSA was an outlet to do that.
