Anyone wanting to expand their educational horizons will have the chance to meet with expert advisers from The University of Queensland at the 2004 Tertiary Studies Expo (TSXPO).

The annual event, where UQ representatives will provide the latest information on tertiary studies and career pathways, will take place at the RNA Showgrounds on July 17 and 18 between 10am and 4pm.

UQ’s Dean of Students Dr Lisa Gaffney said staff from academic schools, admissions, and accommodation services would give advice about course offerings and the options available to prospective students.

“This unique event will be an excellent opportunity for secondary school students, mature age students and anyone looking to change their course of study, to find out about UQ programs,” Dr Gaffney said.

“There will be staff from all faculties ready to provide information about everything UQ has to offer - both undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

“Students can then follow this up by visiting all three University campuses at St Lucia, Ipswich and Gatton, during the open days in August.”

The University boasts world-class educational facilities and programs and maintains a consistent record for having among the nation’s best graduate outcomes, and above average graduate salaries record.

Dr Gaffney said with many employers requiring a broad range of skills in different discipline areas, students were interested in combining various courses.

“This is where our advisors can help, pointing students in the right direction and presenting various opportunities to obtain skills in a number of areas and interests through, for example, dual degrees.”

Dr Gaffney said UQ offered more than 400 degree programs and 6000 courses providing a rich range of study offerings.

“Very often students know what they want to study but are unsure about which programs line up to their area of interest. This is where TSXPO can help,” she said.

The University of Queensland will hold Open Days during August at which time potential students can meet UQ staff, attend presentations on study areas and careers, tour the campuses, libraries and museums, and take part in a range of activities. The St. Lucia Open Day on 1 August has information on all undergraduate and postgraduate programs across all UQ campuses. The Ipswich Open Day on 15 August focuses on Ipswich programs and the Gatton Open Day on 22 August concentrates on Gatton programs. While all open days have information about postgraduate programs, a special postgraduate expo will be held at St. Lucia on Monday, 2 August.
