People with sore hips are being scanned at Brisbane’s Wesley Hospital to come up with new exercise programs to help ease their pain.

University of Queensland physiotherapy researcher Alison Grimaldi is steering a study on muscle changes in people with joint degeneration or damage for her masters degree in physiotherapy.

Mrs Grimaldi needs participants who have osteoarthritis or a cartilage/labral tear in only one hip joint and have an X-ray or magnetic resonance image (MRI) of their muscle degeneration.

She said participants would have to visit the Wesley at Auchenflower for about 30 minutes for a quick medical check, MRI scan and questionnaire.

It’s free, there are no side-effects or radiation and you can receive feedback on the state of your hip and advice on exercises to ease the pain.
