The University of Queensland has appointed Greg Bain as the new General Manager of University of Queensland Press (UQP).

Mr Bain has been employed by UQP since 1999 where for the past two years he was Deputy General Manager. He has extensive experience in publishing and bookselling and recently founded UQ’s innovative Print-On-Demand Centre.

He said there were many challenges and immense opportunities ahead for UQP.

“I see new opportunities for publishing through digital technology – a new world of publishing is emerging,” Mr Bain said.

Mr Bain’s appointment will come into effect immediately.

“My overriding goal is to ensure the prominence and quality that UQP has earned over the past 55 years is maintained and strengthened,” he said.

Mr Bain said UQP was a dynamic university press known for its risk-taking philosophy and commitment to publishing works of high quality and cultural significance.

“For more than 50 years UQP has been at the forefront of innovative Australian publishing,” he said.

UQP has launched the careers of many great Australian novelists, published contemporary Australian poets, been a pioneering force in children’s and young adult publishing and has set the benchmark for award-winning scholarly and Black Australian writing.

Mr Bain succeeds Laurie Muller who retired in July this year after 20 years service.
