An eminent Egyptologist will present a free public lecture at The University of Queensland on Sunday, August 17.

Dr Maarten Raven will discuss The tomb of Meryneith at Saqqara from 2–3.30pm in the Abel Smith Lecture Theatre, St Lucia campus.

Dr Raven is curator of the Egyptian Department of the National Museum of Antiquities at Leiden in The Netherlands.

He is leading the excavation of the tomb of Meryneith, an official who served in the time of Akhenaten and into the post-Amarna period.

The tomb reflects political and religious changes of the times and how Meryneith dealt with them.

Dr Raven is the author of numerous books and articles on Egyptological subjects and has been the Associate Director of the National Museum of Antiquities’ excavations at Saqqara in Egypt since 1998.

The lecture is supported by UQ’s School of History, Philosophy, Religion and Classics, and The Friends of Antiquity.

It will be chaired by the UQ Head of Classics and Ancient History, Associate Professor John Whitehorne.
