UQ seminar to discuss the fall of dot.com mania

The post dot.com recession era will be discussed at a free University of Queensland public lecture next week.

UQ postdoctoral fellow and Internet activist Geert Lovink will discuss After the fall of dot.com mania on Thursday, March 20 at 5.30pm in the UQ Centre foyer, St Lucia campus.

“The party is over for the post-dot.com recession era. It would be useful to look back at the dot.com model and re-assess what sustainable Internet models could look like,” Mr Lovink said.

Mr Lovink is an internationally recognised media theorist who has published extensively.

His latest book, entitled Uncanny Networks (MIT Press), is a collection of interviews with new media theorists and artists, and will be launched after the lecture.

The seminar is part of UQ’s Centre for Critical and Cultural Studies’ (CCCS) 2003 public lecture program and is supported by The University of Queensland Press.
