The University of Queensland has announced a new Director for its Office of Marketing and Communications (OMC).

University Vice-Chancellor Professor John Hay said Shane Rodgers had accepted the position and would begin duties on November 19.

The appointment follows the resignation in September of Ms Meredith Jackson as OMC Director to take up a position at Monash University.

Mr Rodgers was previously National Media Manager for Centrelink in Canberra.

Prior to that he spent 20 years in journalism, most recently as Deputy Editor of The Courier-Mail newspaper in Brisbane. He also held the positions of Chief-of-Staff, News Editor and Associate Editor at the newspaper.

Mr Rodgers has twice worked as a journalist in the Press Gallery in Canberra and, as a reporter, has covered economics, politics, court, social issues, industrial relations, police, mining, rural and education.

He was born in Ipswich and grew up in the town of Rosewood. He started his journalistic career at The Queensland Times newspaper.

Professor Hay said he was delighted to welcome Mr Rodgers to UQ.

“I’m sure that he and the OMC team will continue to provide the University with high quality support and advice on marketing and communications matters,” Professor Hay said.

“There are exciting times ahead for all of us and it is vital that we keep the community informed as we tackle the future challenges and opportunities.”
