The University Regimental Band, the Emmanuel College Pipers, a Book Fair and the inaugural Alumni Cup Inter-college Cloister Races will set the University of Queensland Great Court abuzz on Saturday, August 25 for the 90th Anniversary Alumni Reunion.

The aim is to put the University on show for its graduates, according to Reunion Committee chair Dr Stephen Papas. And the general community is welcome to join in.

"This is going to be a really big event as part of a whole Reunion weekend themed on our proud past and exciting future," Dr Papas said. "We love our University, and we'd like to see as many people as possible joining us in the Great Court on Saturday to celebrate its 90th Anniversary.

"St Peters Lutheran College is holding a Music Festival in Mayne Hall from 10am to 3pm that day and this will add to the festivities."

The Alumni Reunion program (www.uq.edu.au/reunion) includes bus tours of the St Lucia campus, guided tours of the sandstone carvings adorning the Cloister, displays of leading-edge facilities such as the Institute for Molecular Bioscience, and morning tea in the Great Court.

In the UQ Cybrary, Travelling to a new world of knowledge will be the topic of a presentation, tour and afternoon tea on offer at the University's high-tech Library. The Library is the largest in Queensland and has won two Australian Awards for University Teaching in the past three years.

Fryer Library will display Gems from Fryer Library and Archives and many of the University's research and teaching collections will be open, such as the Anthropology Museum and the Classics and Ancient History Museum.

A mock trial on a medico-legal issue will be held in the Abel Smith lecture theatre and a collection of memorabilia and photographs will be on show in the Law Library.

Dr Papas said the Reunion Committee had been working on the program since October 2000. The response from graduates had been excellent, with more bookings expected for Alumni functions such as the public lecture by alumnus Professor Peter Doherty and the Reunion Lunch at the Staff and Graduates Club.

"The Committee represents all the Alumni groups - about 20 altogether including all the faculties, the Regiment and UQ Gatton - and this is the first time they've all gathered round the table to organise one huge Reunion," Dr Papas said.

"We've also had tremendous cooperation from the faculties and schools. They are helping to make sure the weekend will showcase all the wonderful things the University is doing."
