Participants in The University of Queensland's Hong Kong graduation ceremony on March 18 will include the first round of graduates of the University's innovative Technology Management Program.

Introduced through Hong Kong's Lingnan University in 1999, the Technology Management program offers a career-relevant degree through state-of-the-art web-based teaching.

The program is based at The University of Queensland's Technology and Innovation Management Centre (TIMC) in Brisbane, bringing together the connections between science, engineering, technology and business development.

Centre Director Dr Shantha Liyanage, who has worked as a consultant to a number of Asian Governments and international agencies such as the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, says there is growing student demand for a new e-Business stream, and a biotechnology stream will be offered in 2002.

'Our programs are designed to give the edge to managers and professionals who need to keep ahead of technological change,' Dr Liyanage said.

Some 38 UQ graduates are expected to attend The University of Queensland's graduation ceremony at Conrad International, Hong Kong on Sunday March 18 at 1.00pm.

The event is being hosted by the University's Vice-Chancellor Professor John Hay and the Hong Kong UQ Alumni association, with UQ Chancellor Sir Llewellyn Edwards as the presiding officer.

The University of Queensland has more than 3000 international students from 129 different countries, representing more than 11 percent of the total student population.

More than 150 Hong Kong students were enrolled at UQ in 2000, and this year the numbers are expected to increase. The most popular programs were in the Arts and Commerce degrees.
