A rock concert, beach volleyball tournament, shaved head stalls and free ice-creams are just some of the activities on offer at The University of Queensland's orientation programs from February 26 to March 2.
And on a more serious note, the 2001 Orientation programs provide a wide range of information to help students prepare for life on campus.
Orientation Coordinator Eril McNamara said there will be information on course information, academic support, information technology training and tours of UQ's award winning library.
'In addition, there are opportunities to explore different sporting and leisure activities, meet other new students and generally become familiar with the layout of their campus,' she said.
The St Lucia, Ipswich, Gatton and COTAH campuses will feature free AskIT computing help and training. All students who undertake a library tour at St Lucia, Ipswich and Gatton campuses will be rewarded with either a free coffee or ice cream.
Market Day at the St Lucia, Ipswich and Gatton campuses will include the World's Greatest Shave Stall, where participants agree to shave their heads in order to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.
Welcomes to the Orientation programs will include addresses by University of Queensland Vice-Chancellor Professor John Hay, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International and Development) Professor Trevor Grigg and President of the Student Union Juliana Virine at the Ipswich and St Lucia campuses on February 27 and 28.
Professor Hay, Executive Dean of the Natural Resources, Agriculture and Veterinary Science Faculty Professor Roger Swift and the President of the Gatton Student Association Dave Wormald will give an official welcome at the Gatton campus on February 28.
The UQ St Lucia Orientation program includes Market Day on February 28, including the UQ Sport Expo. The Union's ?Big Gig' concert featuring 10 bands will be held on March 2.
The UQ Ipswich Orientation program includes Market Day on March 1, tours of the City of Ipswich and the campus and a free BBQ and a live band hosted by the Student Union.
The UQ Gatton Orientation program includes Market Day on February 28, a Scavenger Hunt, the Gatton Mini Olympics hosted by UQ Sport, a Beach VolleyBall Tournament with free BBQ hosted by the Gatton Student's Association and the Boxers, Boots and Hats Dance.
COTAH Orientation activities will be held at Southbank, St Lucia and Ipswich campuses.
The University will hold a separate program for parents, partners and friends of students, at each of the three main campuses.
