Australia's Chief of Army, Lieutenant General Peter Cosgrove will visit The University of Queensland to present St. Leo College's Annual Archbishop Sir James Duhig Memorial Lecture.
General Cosgrove will discuss A Military Leader's Contribution to Australian Culture on September 26 at Mayne Hall, St Lucia at 8.30 p.m.
General Cosgrove, who is well-known for his role as commander of INTERFET during their peace-keeping operations in East Timor earlier this year, has held a number of Command, Staff and Training appointments in Australia and overseas.
He has graduated from a number of military institutions including the Royal Military College, Duntroon; the United States Marine Corps Command and Staff College; the Australian Joint Services Staff College and the Indian National Defence College.
He is a military member of the Order of Australia and has been awarded the Military Cross for his service in South Vietnam.
The evening will be the 21st lecture of what has become an annual tradition for St. Leo's College.
Each year the college has invited a prominent Australian to deliver a lecture on an aspect of the common theme of cultural development in Australia.
Last year's Lecture was presented by The Honorable Justice Ian Callinan, former member of the High Court, who talked about law, society and culture at the turn of the century.
St. Leo's College is one of The University of Queensland's student residences, established in 1917 by late Brisbane Archbishop James Duhig under the care of the Catholic Church.
The lecture will follow a dinner at St. Leo's College at 6.30 p.m.
