The University of Queensland will tonight launch a new Web site for TSXPO to help students plan their university study in 2001.
The Web site name says it all: studyatuq.net
Vice-Chancellor Professor John Hay said the new site was of one of many information resources developed by UQ to assist students and would be updated regularly though the year.
Students can also subscribe to the University's free electronic newsletter reminding them of the key dates for applying through QTAC and provide the latest news about studying at UQ in 2001. The site also allows students to request relevant publications online.
"studyatuq.net is designed for the e-generation, which has a high usage of Web and email," Professor Hay said.
"We anticipate that this site will be popular with school leavers, parents, students switching universities and current UQ students changing programs. We've had extremely positive feedback following the launch of the UQ Web site for guidance officers earlier this year."
Professor Hay said the studyatuq.net project would complement another exciting development the University would launch this year to boost communications and share its resources.
All UQ students, staff and Alumni will soon have personalised myUQ Web pages that will allow one-stop access to services, study, information and advice.
The plan gives all members of the University community their "own space" online through a Web-based "portal" system. Pilot student pages are planned to be online by September 2000.
Professor Hay said these imaginative Web developments were strategic steps for the University.
"Information systems are becoming increasingly important to how we work, study and go forward in the global environment," he said. "These sites will give user-friendly access to a range of facilities."
