The University of Queensland will give parents, partners and friends of new students a preview of university life at its St Lucia, Ipswich and Gatton campuses next month.

Parents', Partners' and Friends' Day will be held at the St Lucia and Gatton campuses on Sunday, February 6. A Parents', Partners' and Friends' Evening will be held at UQ Ipswich campus on Thursday, February 10.

The University's Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ted Brown, said the popular annual Parents', Partners' and Friends' Program enabled friends and family to familiarise themselves with campuses, meet staff and have an opportunity to ask questions about courses.

"Each year people enjoy these sessions because it enables them to experience first hand the environments in which students will be working. Each program has three important features: an official welcome to the University, academic information sessions and information on services available to students," he said.

"Executive Deans and other academics will talk about programs on offer. Visitors will be able to tour the Libraries and see the wide range of other student facilities and support services."

An invitation to the Parents', Partners' and Friends' Program will be included with Orientation material sent to new UQ students this month. Students do not attend the Program ; they will have their own separate Orientation Week activities in February.

The UQ St Lucia official Parents', Partners' and Friends' welcome on February 6 at Mayne Hall at 10 am will feature addresses by Vice-Chancellor Professor John Hay; Secretary and Registrar Douglas Porter; and Student Union President Sarah McBratney. There will be a free morning tea in the Great Court at 11.45am.

The UQ Gatton welcome on February 6 at the Gymnasium at 1pm follows a free lunch at 11.30am. Vice-Chancellor Professor John Hay; Acting Executive Dean, Faculty of Natural Resources, Agriculture and Veterinary Science Professor Richard Williams; and Gatton Student Association president Barbara Featherstone will be speakers.

The UQ Ipswich welcome and introduction on February 10 at Room 116/117, Building 12 will be given by Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Trevor Grigg, followed by campus tours and a complimentary light supper.

The University of Queensland this year expects to have 29,500 students enrolled in 400 courses and 5000 subjects across three campuses.
