UQ staff member heads professional body
Jenny Reilly, Executive Assistant to UQ Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Hay, has been elected Queensland President of the Institute of Professional Secretaries and Administrators (Australia) - IPSA.
Mrs Reilly joined IPSA in 1996 and previously served as Queensland Division Honorary Secretary and Queensland Division Vice-President
IPSA, a voluntary, not-for-profit organisation, is the sole national professional association for secretaries, personal assistants and office administrators in Australia and represents all professionals employed in those areas. Queensland Governor Major General Peter Arnison, AO, is the Patron of IPSA and fully supports its activities.
IPSA is represented in every capital city, with 1300 members nationally, and 490 members in seven branches in regional Queensland and Brisbane including 70 Corporate members. As Queensland President, Mrs Reilly is responsible for the overall administration of the seven Queensland branches as well as the local Brisbane area. She is also a Director of the National Board of IPSA.
Professor Hay said he fully supported the Mrs Reilly's association with IPSA. "It an honour for her to be elected President and reflects the high standing in which she is held in her profession," he said.
IPSA conducts regular professional development and educational information sessions for its members, covering topics of relevance to the profession and also conducts an annual one-day seminar. Additionally, it provides support and networking opportunities for its members as well as assistance with job-seeking.
IPSA supports the ongoing training of students enrolled in office administration studies at high schools, TAFE colleges and business colleges. As further commitment to its profession, IPSA awards the annual Helen Richards Scholarship of $1000 to a successful Year 12 student who wishes to pursue secretarial studies at a recognised college.
IPSA's major annual event is the Celebration Breakfast held on International Secretaries and Administrators' Day each April attracting significant corporate sponsorship. This event is organised solely by a voluntary Organising Committee "This year, 1200 people attended the Breakfast, while next year we are aiming for 2000 for 2000," she said.
