UQ Ipswich offers exciting possibilities for school leavers

Australia's 1998 University of the Year, the University of Queensland, is offering students the chance to make history in 1999.

The University is opening a new campus at Ipswich in February, 1999.

Although UQ Ipswich will be Australia's newest campus, it will be an integral part of the State's oldest and most prestigious university, the University of Queensland. Students attending UQ Ipswich will enjoy the certainty that their qualifications will be recognised and valued worldwide.

The University of Queensland is one of Australia's major comprehensive universities, recognised internationally for its strengths in teaching and research, high academic standards and state-of-the-art facilities.

University Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Trevor Grigg said UQ Ipswich campus would be an outstanding campus with distinctive programs - not cloning the models of existing campuses.

"The University is developing highly innovative courses and course delivery methods making extensive use of modern communication technologies," he said. "The approach will be interactive and multi-disciplinary, integrating information technology with teaching."

Courses to be offered at UQ Ipswich from 1999 include the bachelor of information environments; bachelor of electronic commerce; bachelor of business (communication); bachelor of contemporary studies; bachelor of social science (in applied communication and development studies); bachelor of education (graduate entry). A bachelor of behavioural studies degree will be offered from the year 2000.

In the year 2000, courses previously offered through the Bremer TAFE and Gatton campuses in the bachelor of business (leisure management, property studies, tourism management, and travel management) will be transferred to the UQ Ipswich campus.

Year 12 students seeking more information about UQ Ipswich may be interested in attending a course information session on Wednesday, December 23 at the University's Abel Smith Lecture Theatre, St Lucia at 7 pm.

The session, which is timed to coincide with the release of the Year 12 OP scores, aims to inform prospective students and parents about the University and alleviate the anxiety often associated with making tertiary study applications, especially for competitive courses.
