Some of Australia's leading scholars and political thinkers will discuss the republic and the Constitution at the inaugural symposium of the University of Queensland's Faculty of Business, Economics and Law.

The day-long symposium (sessions and lunch - $95; dinner - $65 ) will be held on Thursday, June 11 at the Heritage Hotel in Brisbane.

The Republic and the States will cover issues such as the possible nature of the republic, its impact on the states and the outcome of the Constitutional Convention.

Speakers include: Senator Bill O'Chee, member of the Standing Committee of Legal and Constitutional Affairs; Wayne Goss, former Premier of Queensland; Professor George Winterton of the University of New South Wales; Professor Brian Galligan of Melbourne University; Professor Gregory Craven of the University of Notre Dame, Fremantle; and Dr Suri Ratnapala, acting head of the University of Queensland's T.C. Beirne School of Law.
