ELISION, an internationally-recognised Australian contemporary music ensemble based at the University of Queensland, is performing well under pressure, with overseas concert tours planned as far ahead as 2001, according to artistic director Daryl Buckley.

Based at the University since 1996, ELISION has been prolific in both composition and performance projects, premiering more than 100 new works in the 10 years since its formation, and also assisting many Australian composers in securing publishing contracts and overseas representation.

Mr Buckley said international recognition of the emsemble had risen dramatically.

Consisting of 22 leading musicians from five states, including University of Queensland undergraduate student /conductor Simon Hewett, the ensemble travelled to Seoul, Korea, to perform in the ?97 World Music Days festival on October 2.

The musicians will take part in a European soloists tour in November with performances planned in Holland, Italy and Germany.

A third tour, including a concert series in Belgium and a broadcast recording for Radio Bremen, is scheduled between March and May, next year.

Mr Buckley said it was also exciting that works composed for ELISION by two of the University's PhD candidates, Liza Lim and David Young, would form a core component of the international performances.
