Student offered a place at the University of Queensland in the mid-year offer round can enrol, change enrolment details, and check their timetables and academic records, using a new Internet enrolment system.
The University of Queensland-developed Internet system SInet (Student Information on the Internet) guides students through the enrolment process.
Continuing students will be added to the system in the next few weeks, and will be able to use SInet to make any necessary changes to enrolment.
Students can enrol day or night, any day of the week but they will still need to have chosen their subjects and to have read the Enrolment Guide before attempting to enrol.
University of Queensland Student Administration director Gay Westmore said the initiatives would benefit students and staff by simplifying and streamlining operations.
'These projects demonstrate the University's use of up-to-date technologies to make enrolment easier and information more accessible,' Miss Westmore said.
She said SInet guided students through questions on the enrolment form with the aid of pull-down menus.
'It aims to reduce an 80 percent or higher error rate that occurs in the completion of enrolment forms,' Miss Westmore said.
She said SInet would eliminate simple mistakes, such as leaving a field blank, because forms had to be completed before electronic lodgement could be successful.
Student System Support Group manager Graham McHugh and staff of the Group developed the program with external consultants North Communications.
'In the near future, SInet will be developed to provide a report on an individual student's academic studies,' Miss Westmore said.
An Internet browser that is Java Script enabled is required to access SInet. Netscape users need version 2.0 or higher. Users of Microsoft Internet Explorer need version 3.0 or above.
