Heritage grandeur, fine cuisine and quality music are on the menu for the University of Queensland Music Department's first dinner concert at Brisbane Customs House at 7pm on Thursday, May 8.
The Long Room function features The Topaz Trio performing two half-hour segments. The trio won the 1994 4MBS Sid Page Memorial Prize in chamber music.
The two-course meal includes Tasmanian smoked salmon, baked rack of lamb with a herbal crust served with lentil ragout and gratin dauphinois, wine, tea, coffee and chocolates for $45 per person.
The Topaz Trio features University graduates Andrew Macleod (flute), Michael Allport (piano) and Christine Wang (cello).
Group members are regular performers in the Brisbane City Council's concerts program.
Mr Allport studied at the Franz Liszt Academy in Prague before completing a master of music at the University of Queensland.
Mr Macleod, a masters student at the University, intends to continue studies in London next year.
Ms Wang has won several music awards, and is completing a master of music at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music.
Music Department concerts officer Angela Kurtz said Customs House was a stylish and genteel atmosphere for the Department's new initiative.
'This event provides an opportunity for the University community and general public to interact in a congenial and relaxed environment,' she said.
