Event Description

Full Description:
Coordination and constraints (presented by Logan Wade, PhD candidate, HMNS)

Movement of the human body requires muscles to contract and apply forces to accelerate the centre of mass in the required direction. Coordination of such tasks are heavily influenced by muscle contractile mechanics, muscle architecture and bi-articular muscle function. Understanding how muscle properties influence joint coordination patterns to overcome altered task constraints is important for the design and control of prosthetics and exoskeletal devices. In this talk I will discuss the major studies within my thesis, examining how joint and muscle coordination are adapted when perform jumping with added mass, perturbed patterns of movement and a passive bi-articular exoskeleton.
