Event Description
- Full Description:
- This is the first of a two-part presentation based on a study nested within the Para START program developed by Associate Professor Sean Tweedy, colleagues and students here at UQ. The presenters are Ms Turner Block (visiting Fulbright Postgraduate Scholar) and Dr Eimear Enright, School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences, UQ.
The purpose of this first paper is to consider how five young people with moderate-to-severe cerebral palsy construct the attitudinal and environmental barriers and supports that influence their experiences of physical education and sport. Data were generated primarily through semi-structured interviews with participants and their parents. Theoretically, this paper draws on materialist feminist theorising on disability and embodiment that focuses attention on the interrelated dynamics of ‘fitting’ and ‘misfitting’ bodies and environments.
