Event Description
- Full Description:
- Cost-Benefit Analysis is an important component of contemporary research and evaluation, allowing for forecasting and review of resource allocation, return on investment, and benefits realisation. Analysing social costs and benefits has a unique set of challenges, as the components are often less tangible than the dollars and cents at the centre of traditional cost benefit analysis.
ISSR’s new Social Cost-Benefit Analysis course will equip participants with an understanding and working knowledge of the skills required to apply Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) to the appraisal and evaluation of projects with mainly social costs and benefits. The workshop will cover the potential uses and limitations of cost-benefit analysis (CBA), introduce Social Return on Investment (SROI) analysis, examine the principles and methods underlying CBA and nonmarket valuation, and provide hands-on exercises to practice the basic skills required to perform CBAs.
This course is led by Associate Professor Richard Brown, author of Cost-benefit analysis: financial and economic appraisal using spreadsheets. This course introduces participants to the purpose, use and limitations of Cost-Benefit Analysis techniques in decision-making processes; and provides practical knowledge to better apply Cost-Benefit Analysis to appraisal and project evaluation.
