Event Description

Full Description:
Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) is a term that is frequently used across Europe and is also recognised by many science and technology scholars internationally. However, in Australia, while the term is less prevalent, many elements of the pillars of RRI (ethics, gender and diversity, open access, science education and public engagement) are evident and embedded in the range of research and academic institutions. If RRI is considered critical for research excellence, what are the implications for Australia’s research and innovation agenda

Representatives from the EU Horizon 2020 RRI-Practice project, The Centre for Future Policy Studies, the CSIRO and the Delegation of the European Union to Australia invite you to attend a 2 day workshop to discuss the opportunity for RRI in the Australian context and beyond. Particularly in light of the focus on research impact which is described on the Australian Research Council website as “the contribution that research makes to the economy, society, environment or culture, beyond the contribution to academic research”.

A key question arising is how the Australian government’s focus on research impacts, effects the operationalisation of these pillars? Similarly, if RRI is considered critical for research excellence, what are the implications for Australia’s research and innovation agenda?

Join representatives from the EU Horizon 2020 RRI - Practice project, the UQ Centre for Future Policy Studies, CSIRO and the Delegation of the European Union to Australia to this event to discuss these questions and explore the opportunities for RRI in Australia. International delegates from the RRI-Practice project will present findings arising from the project – sharing multi-country perspectives on RRI in the science and technology context.

Academics, HDR students, policy, industry and NGO representatives that have an interest in research, are invited to attend this event. Places are very limited. RSVPS are essential.
