Event Description

Full Description:
Bernadette Gillick, PhD, MSPT, PT is a neuroscientist and paediatric physical therapist at the University of Minnesota Medical School, USA. She is the director of the Paediatric Neuromodulation Laboratory and a McKnight Land Grant Professor, incorporating advanced technologies in brain stimulation, neuroimaging and neurorehabilitation in her research and teaching. She has dedicated her career to advancing outcomes related to paediatric stroke and resultant cerebral palsy during infancy and for a lifetime. Funding for her novel investigations and interventions include the National Institutes of Health, Foundation for Physical Therapy, Cerebral Palsy Foundation and Cerebral Palsy Alliance.

Perinatal stroke affects 1 in 2300 infants, and can lead to the diagnosis of cerebral palsy. Incorporating neuromodulatory assessments and interventions, Dr. Gillick’s lab has investigated cortical recovery and development from infancy through young adulthood. This presentation will share cutting-edge findings and discuss the translational early intervention potential of Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation as a synergistic application in recovery and rehabilitation after perinatal stroke.
