Event Description

Full Description:
Exercise is not as effective as dietary modifications to reduce body fat. Many people exercise to lose fat and stop exercising when they are unsuccessful.

This presentation, by prof Jeff Coombes from the UQ School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences, will question whether exercise needs to be rebranded to improve behaviour maintenance. An argument will be made to ‘sell’ exercise for fitness and health rather than weight loss.

The importance of the benefits of exercise for daily quality of life will also be examined. The efficacy of high intensity interval training (HIIT) for improving cardiorespiratory fitness and decreasing the risk of cardio-metabolic disease will be presented with practical advice to incorporate HIIT into an individual’s exercise behaviour.
