Title: Mitochondrial biogenesis: dynamic protein complexes for a dynamic organelle
Abstract:
Mitochondria form dynamic networks where they divide, fuse and traffic along the cytoskeleton. Such dynamics is important for maintaining the quality of the population, ensuring proper organelle inheritance and facilitating energy supply. We have characterised the events related to mitochondrial division and the proteins involved in executing this process. In addition, we use biochemical, genetic and systems approaches to understand the assembly of the mitochondrial respiratory chain and the defects that cause mitochondrial disease. Through this, we have uncovered new proteins involved in maintaining mitochondrial function.
