Eligibility and Selection

Entry into the UQ Young Scholars Program is by competitive selection and an application is not a guarantee of a place.

To ensure diversity and to allow each student to make his/her special contribution, UQ will select nominees from a wide range of schools, backgrounds and interest areas. 

To be eligible for selection, an applicant must be:

• enrolled in Year 11 at a Queensland secondary school
• OP eligible and intending to pursue university studies on completion of Year 12
• endorsed by his/her school

Students from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds and students of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent are encouraged to apply.

Selection will be based on:

• academic excellence,
• leadership achievements, and/or
• significant contribution to school or community.
