Wednesday 24th August 2011
10am - 2pm Holt Room
UQ Union

On its third consecutive year, the UQ Volunteer Expo is set to take place on August 24th. This year's event hopes to be the biggest and best so far, Rebecca McIntosh Careers Advisor said, "Last year 2100 students attended this free event and students not only gained voluntary placements but students were also offered paid employment".

The Expo provides UQ students with an opportunity to discuss Volunteering prospects with organisations such as Surf Life Saving Qld, RSPCA, Australia Olympic Committee and many more. Students can discuss opportunities that fit in with their university timetable and hear directly from the organisation how their recruitment processes work.

Reasons to attend

You can find out about over 40 volunteer opportunities on the day and talk directly to the organisation about what sort of commitment is involved. Volunteering is great for your resume. It says a lot about you on your resume if you are prepared to work for free, especially a charity.

Volunteering improves your job prospects. Time and time again employers say they look for graduates that stand out. They tell us volunteering is one of the ways to set yourself apart from the pack and they tell us it improves your competitiveness as a prospective employee.

Volunteering gives you warm fuzzies. Through volunteering you can learn a lot about yourself - cue contemplation pose. It's just all about the good vibes!

Volunteering gives you experience working in an organisation and in some cases can even lead to a job offer and an interest in an area you had never really thought about.
