Welcome to the School of Veterinary Science

The School of Veterinary Science has the responsibility for the training of students, for providing continuing education opportunities, and for conducting original research.  Our specialist staff also provide a consultative service to industry and members of the profession.

Based at the University's Gatton Campus with a staff establishment of approximately 150, the School also operates:

• A farm animal practice at Dayboro (150 km from the Gatton Campus);
• Facilities including a small animal clinic and an emergency centre at the St Lucia Campus (105 km from the Gatton Campus); and
• The Pinjarra Hills farm (90 km from the Gatton Campus).

Based on this extensive infrastructure of laboratories and facilities, research and course areas covered by the School include: 

• Animal behaviour;
• Animal health;
• Animal husbandry and production;
• Biological and veterinary chemistry;
• Veterinary physiology and pharmacology;
• Biometry and statistics;
• Veterinary anatomy;
• Veterinary microbiology,
• Pathology and parasitology;
• Genetics and animal breeding;
• Animal nutrition;
• Tropical animal production systems;
• Poultry health, medicine and production;
• Reproduction in farm animals and horses;
• Meat science;
• Breeding and nutrition of freshwater fish;
• Dairy and beef cattle medicine and production;
• Pig medicine and production;
• Sheep and goat medicine and production;
• Wildlife health and management;
• Veterinary medicine and surgery; and
• Veterinary preventive medicine, which includes applied epidemiology, quarantine and exotic diseases.
