The Oakey Veterinary Hospital Equine Teaching Unit for the teaching of Final year Veterinary students is situated at Oakey approximately 180 Kilometres west from Brisbane. It is situated in the main horse breeding area of Queensland as well as a racing centre for Thoroughbreds in Toowoomba, all of which contribute material for teaching. This facility was established as an adjunct to the Oakey Veterinary Hospital Equine practice nearly 3 years ago to assist in veterinary student training. There are eleven practicing veterinarians on staff all of which are involved in the teaching programme; four are qualified registered specialists in Equine areas. The surgical facility has a yearly intake of over 1700 cases which supply teaching material for the equine rotations.
