History
Founded in 1936, The University of Queensland School of Veterinary Science (UQSVS) commenced teaching a first year intake of seven students on the original site at Yeerongpilly. Students completed fourth and fifth years at Sydney University until 1951. In 1961, the School moved to the main St Lucia Campus. The School of Veterinary Science is now one of eight schools within the Faculty of Science. The large and diverse group of academic and clinical staff in the School has established an outstanding record of teaching and research to benefit farm and companion animals, their owners and industry sectors. Major contributions have been in tropical/sub-tropical animal health and medicine.
