Information for Veterinarians
The University of Queensland would like all members of the public and veterinarians to be involved in the EMP if they would like to do so.
Donations of the bodies of deceased animals will help us to teach anatomy, pathology, surgery and clinical skills to veterinary students. Donation of deceased animals to the program reduce the number of pound sourced animals used in teaching and, as many of the animals sourced from veterinary clinics are affected by disease, this also increases their teaching value.
If you are not currently a participating clinic but are interested in the program please email the EMP coordinator for a copy of the Guidelines and Registration form.
Please note that, all animals entering the program must terminally ill, suffering from a chronic disease, or acute trauma.
Your clinic will need to have a freezer for storage as, due to transport costs, the University can only collect cadavers on a weekly basis. For this same reason clinics which are long distances from the Gatton based Veterinary School may not be able to participate.
Please be aware that it is not usually possible for Veterinary School Staff to provide feedback on donated animals with regards to health status and pathology.
Should you have further questions once you have read the Guidleines and EMP Brochure please no not hesitate to contact the EMP Coordinator Dr Shan Lloyd or Animal Technician Mr Mick Cobbin as per our contacts page.
