The central research concerns of the School of Social Work and Human Services are issues of social inclusion and exclusion, human services practice in the areas of social work, counselling and youth work and community, social policy and organisational development

The School of Social Work and Human Services has an outstanding record in research that supports The University of Queensland's reputation and commitment to research. The School is the major research oriented social work school in the country, and provides pure, competitive and industry funded research. It attracts high quality local and international PhD students who are valuable members of the School.

The School of Social Work and Human Services has the infrastructure in place to support both small and large scale projects, and to establish collaborative partnerships both in Australia and overseas. The focus of research includes defining and clarifying social issues, enhancing service delivery at both individual and community level, and initiating and developing policy and programs.
