The School of Population Health’s primary objective is to improve the health status of all Australians, particularly those who are disadvantaged, through the development of population health as a research discipline and social institution. Our goal is to achieve national and international recognition as a leading institution for population health education and research in the Asia Pacific Region. More specifically, the School seeks to:
- Achieve excellence in teaching and scholarship, across a range of substantive areas fundamental to improving population health in Queensland, Australia and neighbouring countries
- Provide comprehensive research training and research excellence in core areas of population health, reflecting the strengths and diversity of the School’s staff
- Strengthen its position as a leading institution for teaching and research training in population health for international scholars and students
The School of Population Health at The University of Queensland is one of the major centres of population health research and training in the Asia-Pacific region. Located in the City of Brisbane the School is extremely well positioned to foster collaborative research and training opportunities with neighbouring Asia and Pacific countries. The School has an established international reputation for research and teaching excellence in epidemiology, evidence based health care, Indigenous health, tropical health and nutrition.
At the same time, the School is positioning itself to respond to a number of emerging health sector issues, particularly related to burden of disease and cost-effectiveness assessments as a key input into priority setting, evidence-based health care and policy, and strengthening the science base for addressing key prevention challenges, including obesity and its health effects.
