Microwave and Optical Communications The Microwave and Optical Communications research group activities revolve around microwave and optoelectronic technologies and techniques for use in communications and radar. The group is involved with modelling and simulation of modern wireless (radio) and optoelectronic communication systems. Also it is engaged with the design and development of computer algorithms for measurement and control of microwave and optoelectronic hardware.
Its present focus is on multiple-element antennas and associated signal processing techniques (also known as smart antennas), ultra wideband microwave imaging and target recognition, design and modelling of short-reach optical interconnects, and modelling and characterisation of optical emitters for high-speed digital communication systems.
The research outcomes of the group appear in prestigious publications such as IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, Antennas and Propagation, Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, Signal Processing, Image Processing, and Communications. Also in this list are IET Proceedings on Microwaves Antennas and Propagation, IEEE Journal on Lightwave Technology, Electronics Letters, IEEE Wireless Components Letters, EEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters.
Together with Biomedical Engineering, this Research Group is part of the Electronics and Imaging (EMI) research cluster.
