 Profile

The discipline of Obstetrics and Gynaecology has the prime responsibility of teaching medical students as well as providing research and care of women's health.

Research areas:

  • Women during and after pregnancy including childbirth
  • Assisting with planned parenthood
  • Sexual and reproductive health
  • Diseases of the genital tract
  • Screening and diagnosis of genital tract cancer,
  • Postmenopausal health
  • Ageing

The discipline is based at Teaching & Research, Ned Hanlon Building, Royal Brisbane and Womens Hospital, Herston.

Our research is broadly based and special areas include the Perinatal Research Centre (under Professor Colditz), and the Betty Byrne Henderson Women’s Health Research Centre (for Women and Ageing).

These centres have attracted NHMRC and other grants and sponsored PhD/MPhil students.
