The School of Music at The University of Queensland is recognised as one of Australia's leading music institutions with research in areas including composition, musicology, performance, and music therapy and education. Over the last decade the School has played an increasing role within the national music discipline and now holds a leading position in graduate studies, composition, music education, twentieth century music and music therapy. Other areas of specialisation include musicology and practical studies. Staff members of the School are acclaimed nationally and internationally as performers, teachers, composers and researchers.

The School's programs are designed to turn out flexible, imaginative graduates strong in musical mind, body and "soul", and worthy inheritors of the destiny of a truly creative nation.
Graduate studies have seen rapid expansion in the past few years and attract international and domestic students in programs ranging from graduate certificates and graduate diplomas through to masters and doctoral degrees.
