 | Profile | |
The School of Mathematics and Physics has an impressive research record. Our achievements are recognised nationally and internationally as measures of research excellence. Many of our school's researchers are internationally respected and regarded among the best in the world in their field. The School currently hosts nodes of three Australian Research Council (ARC) Centres of Excellence:
The ARC Centre of Excellence for Quantum Computer Technology is an Australian multi-university collaboration undertaking research on the fundamental physics and technology of building, at the atomic level, a solid state quantum computer in silicon together with other high potential implementations. The objective is underpinned by a vigorous semiconductor research program that includes a sophisticated quantum measurement capability at ultra-low temperatures.
The ARC Centre of Excellence for Mathematics and Statistics of Complex Systems (MASCOS) (led by the University of Melbourne) combines researchers in different areas of mathematics and statistics with an interest in understanding the behaviour of complex systems.
The ARC Centre of Excellence for Quantum-Atom Optics (led by Australian National University) combines Australian theoretical and experimental research groups to create a powerful network to advance the rapidly developing field of quantum atom optics. The Centre aims to build a quantum toolbox to enable applications such as the transfer and storage of information for photonics, and precision quantum control of atoms for enhanced atom interferometry.
