The Faculty of Health Sciences offers a diverse range of study and research opportunities, with research programs among the best in the world developed in each of the faculty's seven schools: Dentistry, Health & Rehabilitation Sciences, Human Movement Studies, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Population Health. Purpose specific research centres have also been established in key and emerging fields, such as ageing, drug development and young people's health. The Faculty's key research strengths are in the fields of:
- Chronic Disease - prevention and treatment
- Quality Use of Healthcare - for the community and the individual
- Measurement and monitoring of health determinants and outcomes
Central to the Faculty’s research success is a strong philosophy of collaboration, across the Faculty and the University, with UQ’s internationally recognised Institute for Molecular Bioscience, the Queensland Brain Institute, the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, as well as with leading Australian research hospitals and other important research nodes, nationally and around the world. The Faculty recently opened a new pharmacy education and research precinct called PACE – Pharmacy Australian Centre of Excellence with key professional and industry partners.
The Faculty continues to develop its research capacity in the new $70million UQ Centre for Clinical Research in partnership with the Queensland Government and Atlantic Philanthropies, as well as plans with the State Government for a smart therapies development centre, focused on translational research from discovery to drug production and clinical trials at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
The Faculty of Health Sciences is keen to pursue new and continuing research agreements with industry. For more information about opportunities, please contact the Associate Dean (Research):
