The Burns, Trauma, & Critical Care Research Centre was established to further advance the level of care and knowledge given to burns and critical care patients.

In 2002, the tragedy of the Bali bombings focused national attention on burns victims and emphasised there was a critical need to improve the treatment and outcomes of burnt and critically ill patients.

However the outstanding response from the critical care and burns staff of Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital and The University of Queensland also demonstrated what skill and expertise is currently in this area.

The Burns, Trauma, & Critical Care Research Centre was established to further advance the level of care and knowledge given to burns and critical care patients utilizing the staff existing within the units. It is a collaborative venture between Royal Brisbane Hospital Burns and Intensive Care Units and The University of Queensland.

The main aims of our Research Centre are:

• Improving both the survival and outcome of patients by conducting high quality research in the area of Burns, Trauma, & Critical Care in general.
  
  
• Providing a research-driven evidence base for clinical practice in the Burns, Trauma, & Critical Care areas
  
  
• Instituting national and international collaboration in the Burns, Trauma, & Critical care
  
  
• Increasing opportunities for research and promoting the research training of postgraduate students and staff in the Burns, Trauma, & Critical Care.
