 Biography

Dr Gordon Wyeth's research interests are in Robotics.

Dr. Wyeth has achieved an international reputation in the field of robotics. As founder and director of the Robotics Laboratory at the University of Queensland, he has designed and constructed more than twenty robots, including flying robots, wall-climbing robots, high performance wheeled robots, manipulators and a humanoid robot. He has supervised three doctoral students to graduation, with two others currently under examination. He currently supervises another eight doctoral students, two masters students and ten undergraduate robot builders. He is Head of the Mechatronics Engineering Program at the University of Queensland. In 2004, he was the Head of the Complex and Intelligent Systems Division (consisting of 22 academic staff and 60 postgraduates) in the School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering. He is the President of the Australian Robotics and Automation Association, and was co-chair of the Australian Conference on Robotics and Automation in 2003. He was chairman of the Small Size league at the Robot Soccer World Cup held in 2000 in Melbourne, Australia – an event that attracted over 1500 international researchers. He has served on various committees of the international RoboCup Federation. He initiated the RoboCup Junior programme in Queensland in 2001, with robotics training going to over 7000 school students and teachers between 2001 and 2004. In 2003 and 2004, he hosted the RoboCup Junior Australian Open Championships, which was attended by 1200 competitors from throughout Australia and overseas. He has acted as a reviewer for various journals and conferences relating to robotics.
