Research Interests:

  • Gender pay equity. This research addresses both the contemporary Australian situation under recent trends towards decentralisation and deregulation, as well as cross-national comparisons. An aspect of the research currently funded by an ARC Discovery Grant involves examination of the re-creation of pay inequities in new occupations and industries such as Information Technology and Telecommunications.
  • Parental rights in employment This research addresses the problems of work/family balance in contemporary societies and the scope for policy intervention. It focuses on Australia, comparisons within the OECD, and the situation in developing countries, particularly in Southeast Asia.
  • International labour rights This research focuses on the capacity to construct and disseminate labour rights at an international level in the current context of globalisation and trade union decline. Particular issues of concern include various forms of forced labour, trade union rights of association and bargaining, and rights relating to conditions of employment.
  • International development Specific topics within this broad area include women and development and democratisation.
