 Biography

Philip Walker is an Associate Professor of Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Queensland. He is a consultant vascular surgeon and the Director of the Vascular Laboratory at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital. He heads the Peripheral Research Group at the University of Queensland and Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.

The Peripheral Vascular Research Group’s research interests range from basic science investigations through to clinical trials. The group’s research activities are focussed on the aetiology and management of aortic aneurysmal disease, muscle metabolism and exercise physiology, and non-operative management strategies in peripheral arterial disease, carotid stenosis, infectious agents in the aetiology of atherosclerosis, vascular imaging, and the evaluation of endovascular technologies. This work is supported by funding from the NHMRC, National Heart Foundation, The University of Queensland Mayne Bequest Fund, The Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital Foundation and industry partners. The group has close research collaborations with a number of investigators and institutions in the broad field of cardiovascular diseases including the Australian and New Zealand Society for Vascular Surgery Vascular Research Group, the National Heart Foundation and Prince Charles Hospital Cardiovascular Research Unit, the Centre for Research in Vascular Biology at the University of Queensland, the Schools of Human Movement Studies at both the University of Queensland and Queensland University of Technology, the School of Dentistry at the University of Queensland, and the Chlamydia Research Group in the School of Life Sciences at QUT.
